April Reign advocates for the representation of marginalized communities in all areas of the arts and technology through corporate consulting, speaking engagements, media activations, and lending her voice as speaker or panel host and mediator. She is an influential and sought-after media personality with a massive following over several platforms. Her personal network includes creators, activists, corporate decision-makers and recognized celebrities. For more than 15 years, April honed her talent for public speaking, persuasive writing and effecting policy change through her practice as campaign finance lawyer. She led law reform working with Congress, state and federal agencies, including the Federal Election Commission. Her legal career took an unexpected turn when her 2015 commentary on the lack of representation of marginalized communities in Hollywood compelled her to tweet a now-famous hashtag: #OscarsSoWhite. The hashtag catalyzed a movement that resulted in the most permanent systemic change in the over 90-year history of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; doubling the number of women and the number of people of color in its voting membership. Through her company Reignstorm Ventures, April brings together her experience, network and influence to spark conversations and turn dialogue into action on issues of race, politics and culture. She consults to corporations on making inclusive, equitable and intentional decisions in their marketing and hiring practices, and designs and delivers unique gatherings for brands to reach new audiences.April is a member of the Google NextGen cohort, a group of diverse professionals connecting the dots between racial justice, civil/human rights and tech policy. They tackle design ethics, diversity and inclusion in data and machine learning, equity in intellectual property and inclusion in the internet economy. When April is not advocating for traditionally underrepresented communities, she’s recounting stories of living with a very strong-minded teenage daughter and connecting with her 160k social media followers as a pop culture nerd.
