Farah Pandith

Foreign Policy Strategist, Author & Speaker

Farah is an international relations strategist with extensive global experience in policy and transformational change - earned at the highest levels of government.

Presently, she is a senior fellow with the Future of Diplomacy Project at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School, a senior advisor at the Anti Defamation League, and an adjunct senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. She is also the Muhammad Ali Global Peace Laureate.

Farah served as a political appointee under 3 Presidents: George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. Her track record of developing, implementing and managing presidential initiatives spans areas of international security, sustainability, social cohesion, community resilience and global citizenship in the White House, the Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Her pioneering leadership on countering violent extremism, advancing the women’s leadership agenda and diversity and inclusion, led to her appointment as the first-ever Special Representative to Muslim Communities with the rank of Ambassador, serving both Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry.

She has served in various roles on the National Security Council at the U.S. Dept of State and USAID, and later, on the Department of Homeland Security’s Advisory Council, chairing its task force on countering violent extremism. Her book How We Win: How Cutting-Edge Entrepreneurs, Political Visionaries, Enlightened Business Leaders and Social Media Mavens Can Defeat the Extremist Threat is a bold and clear-eyed playbook on fighting hate and extremism.

Farah is a sought after international speaker and frequent media commentator on international risk and national security. She has won numerous awards including the Secretary of State’s Distinguished Honor Award and serves on various boards including Mercy Corps, We Are Family Foundation, Starts With Us, and The Asian American Foundation.

Over her career as a diplomat, policy advisor and transformational change agent, Farah has established a vast global network and built lasting relationships with domestic and foreign government officials, corporate executives, leading academics and thought leaders.

She has an A.B. from Smith College and a Master of Arts from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She is based in Washington DC.
